Scholarship Programme

scholarshipMaisha Bora awards scholarships at both secondary and tertiary level. We support high achievers from poor backgrounds who, without financial support, would not be able to continue their education. Scholarships cover the cost of tuition fees and other associated academic costs. They also include a living allowance for young peoples’ basic needs whilst they are studying. Scholarships are awarded for the duration of a course (4 years for KCSE, 2-4 years for college and university).

Before applying for a scholarship, all young people will need to check that they are eligible for the programme. Eligibility criteria include academic results and family financial capacity. As there is high demand for scholarships, all applications are assessed by our Board to decide on admissions. More details on eligibility criteria and our decision making processes is available in the admission form.

If you would like to apply for a scholarship, please download and email us a completed application which can be found here by clicking either Admission Form (Secondary School) or Application Form (College). Alternatively please drop by our office for a discussion in person about your eligibility. If you would like to donate to the scholarship programme please click here.

Advocacy

Although we provide scholarships, these do not cover the full cost of a students education. This is because we expect both a family, the community and the government to take some responsibility for a young person’s education. Parents and extended are encouraged to fundraise in their communities, building on the African proverb that “it takes a whole village to raise a child.” We also work with parents to apply for CDF and HELB funding from the government and help them in advocating for a response when delays are experienced.

ICT support for students

Through the support of Computers 4 Africa we have been able to provide Maisha Bora students with laptop computers to aid their personal study. In order to successfully complete their courses, students must be able to carry out research online and type their assignments. ICT support is therefore an important element of our work.
